My Nuxe 'Great Ready for Spring' Wishlist

28 February 2014

Nuxe Spring Pamper Wishlist Top 5

Nuxe is a best-selling skincare brand all about natural ingredients, products that really perform and the all important luxurious experience. That being said they weren't always within my price range as a student, but as a full-time adult in the working world they are now well and truly on my radar.

Spring is hopefully just around the corner *fingers crossed* and I'm craving glowing skin and summer dresses. Nuxe has the first of these covered with some gorgeous products that have firmly plonked themselves onto my beauty wishlist (yes this really does exist).

Here are my top 5 products from Nuxe that I am coveting this Spring:

  1. Huile Prodigieuse - This cult product from Nuxe is one for everyone, it can be used on your face, your body and in your hair. This dry oil is filled with plant oils and vitamine E which promise to nourish and soften your skin and leave your hair silky smooth. A Spring must-have for skin that has been hidden under layers of clothing for months and hair that has taken a beating from the weather and central heating.
  2. Teint Éclat Prodigieux - As the weather hots up I don't want to be wearing a heavy foundation everyday so it's nice to have a lighter bareley-there option that still adds a bit of colour and coverage. The Teint Éclat Prodigieux tinted moisturising cream will be hydrating enough for my oily/combination skin on it's own so this is a time-saving 2 in 1 product for me...bonus.
  3. Clarifying Cream Mask with Rose Petals - I have dehydrated yet oily, blemish prone skin so to get my skin in the best possible condition for Spring this mask would be perfect. Its hydrating, yet clarifying and deep cleansing, everything that I need all in one. Normally I would have to use a clay mask and then follow with a hydrating mask.
  4. Rêve de Miel Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm - Now I don't think that there is a beauty blogger out there who doesn't have this on their wishlist. This ultra nourishing lip balm that will sort out those dry, chapped lips left over from Winter. Layer on your lips before you go to sleep for a hydrating, over night lip treatment.
  5. Nuxellence Jeunesse - This youth and radiance revealing serum/cream is perfect for adding radiance back into the skin. Radiance is always the buzzword in Spring skincare/makeup and this product is sure to deliver it. It's Nuxes' number 1 face care product in France for a reason.

This post has been written in response to a blogger competition called "Get Ready for Spring" that Nuxe posted on their website. For all of the details click here. If you decide to enter yourself be sure to send me the link below in a comment as I'd love to read what products are on your wishlists.

Free samples, just pay for postage...

26 February 2014

mistrys free samples avene

Whilst browsing the net for beauty products last week I spotted an excellent  deal at Mistrys Pharmacy, you can get up to 5 free samples from Skincare brand Avene so that you can try before you buy. All you have to do is pay the postage which is £3.25, which isn't bad when you are getting 5 different samples.

I've not yet tried these as I wanted to save them for a trip away, although my stash of miniatures is getting a bit ridiculous so I might have to give these a go soon. I just wanted to let you know about this brilliant deal.

It seems that Mistrys will be adding more samples to the selection as since I ordered last week they have added multiple samples from skincare brand Eucerin to the 'Try Before You Buy' page that weren't on there last week.

Check out the selection of samples at Mistrys pharmacy here.

The perfect duo | Face masks by Una Brennan - Super Facialist

22 February 2014

Recently I've been loving doubling up on face masks and having a real skin pampering session which my skin has thanked me for. I've found that these 2 masks from Super Facialist by Una Brennan compliment each other perfectly to give a cleansed and hydrated complexion that glows.

Firstly I give my pores a deep cleanse with the Tea Flower Deep Clean Pore Purifying Clay Mask. For only £8.99 this mask really punches above it's weight and it provides gentle, deep cleansing without over drying the skin. This clay mask is a light, thin clay that dries really quickly, and because it is quite light it washes off really easily without lots of tugging and scrubbing. It really does give you that squeaky clean feeling in under 10 minutes.

Despite the Tea Flower Purifying Mask not being too drying I still like to inject a bit of moisture back into my skin, particularly during these colder months. The Rose Hydrate Intense Moisture Mask is perfect for all skin types, its formulated with sensitive skin in mind and despite it being intensely hydrating, its not oily. I find that it works best when it is applied after a deep cleansing mask as it can get to work on fresh, clean skin without dead skin cells and dirt getting in the way. This way it is really absorbed into the skin and I find that it gives me an amazing glow afterwards. It has a really strong rose scent which I happen to like, but if the smell of roses ain't for you then give this one a miss.

The whole Super Facialist range by Una Brennan is available in Boots stores and it really does perform like a high end range for a drugstore price.

Do you double up on your masks? What other masks would you recommend?

An improvement to an old favourite | La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo[+]

20 February 2014

As soon as I heard that La Roche-Posay were launching a new, better version of the cult Effaclar Duo I knew that I had to have it. As you may know from my previous post "La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo | Treatment or Moisturiser?" I'm a big fan of the original version. It keeps my combination/oily blemish prone skin under control and over the many months that I have been using it I have noticed a real improvement in my skin.

Despite the original version controlling my blemishes and keeping shine at bay there were still ugly remnants of the old blemishes hanging around. I've not had a massive blemish for over a month but there were red marks still hanging around from some terrible post-Christmas skin. Enter the Effaclar Duo[+] its the original formula with an added ingredient, Procerad to fight those ugly marks that get left behind. This new key ingredient rebuilds the skin's surface and reduces hyperpigmentation to ensure that your skin gets back to looking at it's best quicker than ever.

I noticed an improvement in my skin within about a week, so don't go expecting miracles after the first use. It has improved my skin in so many ways, I have a reduced number of blemishes, when I do have them they are a lot smaller than they were and then afterwards they don't seem to linger for as long. I do prefer the the new version for beating active blemishes, to reduce the marks that they leave behind and it does this all whilst helping existing scarring. Love it.

Again like with the original I use it more as an all-over blemish treatment before my moisturiser, rather than purely a moisturiser. My skin is currently a bit dehydrated...its winter, I might reconsider this once the weather hots up  though.

Natural Spot Fighting Treatment | Indie Lee Blemish Lotion

19 February 2014

Indie Lee is a brand focussed on eco-friendly, natural products full of the finest natural ingredients. Finally I have found a spot buster that actually works and that is truly natural! My past experiences have been lotions and creams that burn, sting or tingle or natural remedies that just don't deliver.

The Indie Lee Blemish Lotion is very similar to the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion that I wrote about here. At the time when I bought the Indie Lee Blemish Lotion back in October it was roughly the same price as the Mario Badescu version but when I was doing my research for this post I found out that its gone up by £4 in the past few months! I'm not sure how this has been justified...but I do think that given the price difference I will be converting back to using the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion once this one runs out.

For me they are both just as good as each other, they're both really effective at treating blemishes. Literally as soon as  you feel the tingle or a little red bump appears dot this on with a cotton bud before bed and in the morning it will either have come to a whitehead or it will have greatly reduced in size. This product is a miracle worker for me.

Indie Lee have a few other interesting products that I want to try...the Squalane  Facial Oil and the Clearing Mask so keep an eye out as they might be appearing on the blog soon.

A QVC Steal | Alpha-H Balancing Cleanser

17 February 2014

Now I know I said back in January that I wasn't going to repurchase this cleanser...but that was mainly due to cost reasons, not the fact that I didn't love it. The Alpha-H Balancing Cleanser is normally £23 for 200ml but over on QVC I stumbled across an amazing deal.

I'll admit, I was fairly ignorant regarding QVC...I still thought that it was purely a tv based operation, but upon browsing their website I found that they have an amazing online store, with a particularly great beauty section.

The Alpha-H collection available is one of the best I've seen, they offer kits containing different full sized products, multi-packs so that you can buy your favourites in bulk and then the larger sized products that will last you months.

I found the Alpha-H Balancing Cleanser in a giant 500ml size, and the best part...it is only £30.10, so for £7 extra I was gaining a whopping 300ml! Bargain or what? This is currently an introductory offer but even the full price of £33.50 is still a steal.

The cleanser in question is a simple creamy cleanser perfect for all skin types. It removes make-up, even stubborn eye make-up all whilst being gentle and soap-free. Its hydrating and soothing properties are thanks to the added aloe vera and vitamin e. In short it's basic but it's effective.

There's a huge amount of savings to be had over at QVC and it's definitely a new website that I will be scouring for beauty products.

Affordable gorgeous eye palette from Rimmel | Brixton Brown

15 February 2014

This gorgeous little Glam Eyes HD eye palette from Rimmel is the perfect addition to my make-up bag. Sure I have large neutral palettes, but I don't really have anything quite this small that you can just carry around with you.

The 4 neutral shades, your standard creams, taupes and browns are perfectly creamy and velvety which is surprising for a palette which costs so little. What makes this little palette extra special however is the addition of the reddy-brown shade in the centre, its gorgeous!

All of the shades have really good pigmentation and they're super blendable. For the price you can't go wrong with this one. I have this is Brixton Brown but I'm going to be checking out what other colours this comes in soon...

A revelation in nail polishes | CND Vinylux

10 February 2014

CND first brought us Shellac and then they realeased their weekly polish collection, Vinylux. Vinylux is a two part week long nail polish system that doesn't require a base coat and strengthens its resistance to chips over time. The array of colours has gradually expanded in the Vinylux range and now there is nearly every colour that you could possibly want in their collection.

I hadn't heard of this range until last autumn and since then a pale pink weekly polish and accompanying top coat has sat in my nail stash for months before finally trying it a few weeks ago and now I'm hooked. I got straight online and ordered myself some more shades of this wonder product.

I like painting my nails, but I'm usually impatient and chip them within an hour as I can't wait long enough for them to dry. With Vinylux I didn't have that problem, it dried so quickly! The top coat dries within 8 minutes to a super hard, super shiny layer. This layer gets harder with exposure to natural light to strengthen the polish over the week in order to prevent chips.

I was sceptical about this but it worked for me. If you follow the system, using both the nail polish and the top coat together then you can really achieve fantastic results. The navy shade that I'm currently wearing is called Midnight Swim and in the photograph above I've had it on for 3 days and it is still perfect.

Vinylux is also a great alternative for those of us who don't want to commit for a shade for weeks like you have to with Shellac. You can also change the colour as often as you want from the comfort of your own home, but safe in the knowledge that it will last for days if you want it to.

I did think that removing such a hard wearing product would be difficult but it was actually just as easy as any regular polish (and much easier than glitter polish!). Winner. I've also bought 2 more shades in anticipation for Spring/Summer, when it finally decides to arrive. I have Lobster Role and Electric Orange and I can't wait to try them.

A cheap, quick and easy tooth whitening product

08 February 2014

Believe it or not this green, minty powder is actually something that you brush your teeth with. You simply dip a damp toothbrush into the powder and brush away as normal. This is something that you can use in addition to your regular toothpaste 2 or 3 times a week to reduce staining.

I'm not claiming that this is some super-miracle whitener for permanently gleaming teeth, but when used regularly it can make a big difference on the daily staining that occurs from tea and coffee etc. Rather than whitening your teeth, it gets your teeth back to their natural colour by gently removing daily build up of stains.

I have been using a regular whitening toothpaste for years, but this really seems to make an instant difference and with regular use keeps teeth looking their best. It's really gentle, unlike most tooth whitening products, and there are no horrible tasting gels or retainers in sight.

Another bonus is that this product is super cheap. Its £1.49 from Superdrug - its so cheap you have to give it a go. I'm not claiming that it will work for everyone, especially if you are wanting super bright, white teeth, but this really does get rid of everyday stain build up quickly.

Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24 hour cream eyeshadow in On and On Bronze

07 February 2014

Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24 hour cream eyeshadow in On and On Bronze

This gorgeous bronze cream eyeshadow lasts for hours with no creasing. It's the perfect sweep on and go eyeshadow that takes minimal effort yet gives a really amazing result. The creamy formula smooths on easily and it really does last all day. The gorgeous metallic bronze shade is the perfect no effort neutral and I'm definitely going to be trying out some of the other shades...metallic pomegranate and eternal gold are calling out.

The only down side is that I dropped this before I even got it home and as the packaging is made out of glass I managed to chip it and take a huge chunk out of the bottom. Other than that the actual product is a winner.

A New Addition to my Acrylic Storage

05 February 2014

I usually keep my cotton buds in their original packaging in my crammed bathroom cupboard, this usually ends up in me trying to remove the lid of the packaging whilst a million things are flying out of the cupboard at me.

Gone are those days now I have this gorgeous little cotton bud dispenser out on display. I got this off ebay for only £2.96 including delivery! What a bargain, sure it took a few weeks to arrive from Hong Kong but it was worth it. Here is the link to the seller that I got mine from and it arrived reasonably quickly but there are so many different sellers if you search on eBay (link).

What's in my make-up bag | The out and about edit

03 February 2014

I received this gorgeous black and camel Whistles leather pouch/clutch as a gift for Christmas and when I'm not using it as a clutch I have been using it to keep my everyday make-up essentials in. Whistles don't have this one in stock any more but they have some new gorgeous shades in their Spring collection.

Here are just a few things that I'm currently carrying around with me everyday. I'm currently loving the Garnier BB Miracle Skin Perfector Oil Free, normally I wouldn't carry my base around with me but this one layers like a dream even on hours old make-up, perfect for when I am out all day (check out my review here). I apply this with the Real Techniques Buffing Brush from the Core Collection as it gives a nice flawless look. For when I want a bit more coverage I apply it with the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (not pictured).

The concealer that I am currently using is an old favourite which was discontinued a few years ago. The Maybelline Pure Cover Mineral concealer was that much of a favourite I bought it in bulk a while ago and I've been working my way through them ever since. It offers a liquid consistency, with good coverage as well as being a perfect match for my skin. I'm nearly out so any recommendation for a good concealer leave them in the comments below. I like to apply this with the Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush from the Starter Set. This is a soft, densely packed brush that is quite large which makes blending the concealer into areas of redness and under eyes really easy and quick. For stubborn blemishes I prefer to use the Real Techniques Detailer Brush from the Core Collection so that I can pin-point concealer application.

If you haven't seen my 'Battle of the Soap & Glory Powders' post then check it out here, the Kick Ass Instant Retouch Pressed Powder is a new favourite of mine. It blurs out imperfections and smooths the skin tone. For me it is a clear winner as it keeps my t-zone oil free for longer than anything else I've tried recently. This powder brush from the Salonniere range that Jenny Packham did for Boots this Christmas is perfect for throwing in your bag. The lid and retractable design makes it compact enough to throw into small bags whilst still keeping things hygienic and clean. This came as part of a gift set so I don't have a link to it but Real Techniques have just brought out a range of retractable brushes recently and this Bronzer Brush is very similar.

Whilst I don't tend to carry eye make-up around with me as I usually wear waterproof mascara that pretty much lasts all day I do like to carry my Seventeen brow pencil with me in case of smudges, and it has a handy brow comb on the lid. I am also currently loving the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Liner in Nude, it really perks up the eyes and masks any redness, perfect for both in the morning and after staring at a computer screen all day. Last up is the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Sugar Plum, I love this subtle purple shade and the moisturising benefits are really helping my lips in this cold and windy weather that we're having in London right now.
