French Pharmacy Haul

25 March 2014

This month has up to a 1/3 off French Pharmacy brands and sure enough before the month is over I've made an order...I couldn't resist. There's still a few products on my wishlist that might have to wait until pay day next month. This time round I've bought a few favourites, some staples and a few newbies to be added to the collection.

The Staples

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo [+] - This helps to keep my skin under control. Its the perfect blend of spot fighting ingredients without being harsh and drying, perfect for sensitive blemish prone skin. A cult classic I'm sure you've heard many people raving about.

Vichy 3-in-1 Cleanser, Scrub & Mask - The perfect multi-tasker. It's a timer saver and a space saver . I love the clay textured cleanser, perfect for oily skinned gals. I like to take the 3-in-1 thing literally, I apply it to a damp face, rubbing in circular motions to cleanse and exfoliate, but then I leave it on my face to dry for a few minutes to really absorb excess oil, then wash off with a flannel/wash cloth.

The Favourite

Caudalie Beauty Elixir - I love this stuff. I find the smell so refreshing and yet so relaxing. A spritz of this instantly has the ability to calm me or wake me up depending on my mood. The added bonus is that it leaves my skin with a healthy glow.

The Newbies

Nuxe RĂªve de Miel Honey Lip Balm - As soon as I got this I had to try it. I've heard it being raved about on so many other blogs so I needed to try it for myself. The texture is like no other lip balm/butter that I've tried. It delivers intensive nourishment and smells so good!

Bioderma Sebium Hydra - Moisturising Replenishing Care - This one's not technically discounted over on but it's still a French Skincare product. I've been looking for something like this for so long! A moisturising and soothing balm for dried out, fragile, acne-prone skin that's taken a beating from all those drying spot treatments. I'll let you know how this one goes...

The Body Shop | Deals & Discounts

22 March 2014

I scored the mother of all deals yesterday in The Body Shop. Let's not go into numbers but basically I managed to save twice as much as I spent. All I can say is...sign up to those emails from The Body Shop so that you're the first to know about deals and discounts. I've been known on numerous occasions to rush to The Body Shop in my lunch hour after an email popped into my inbox that morning.

If you're a regular at The Body Shop too, I'd really recommend signing up to their Love Your Body membership scheme. You get 10% off all year round plus extra free gifts, sneak peaks and special events. The email that had me running to The Body Shop yesterday was in fact a 20% off member exclusive plus free gifts worth £30.50 if I spent over £25! Even though the above offer might not be relevant now The Body Shop always has deals on their website

So I'm sure you're itching to know a bit about the products...

My main reason to head to The Body Shop is skincare, and this time was no different. I've picked up a few staples which I've mentioned numerous times before on here, the Tea Tree Night Lotion, the Aloe Protective Serum and the Vitamin E Eye Cream. The Night Lotion helps to fade blemishes over time, the Protective Serum is a great basic serum, perfect for those with sensitive skin or for those trying out serums for the first time and the Vitamin E Eye Cream is a great basic eye cream for all skin types, particularly younger skin that doesn't need strong anti-ageing ingredients.

Next up is a new one for me, the Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Lotion, a lot of the moisturisers that I use don't have a built in sunscreen, so for day's when I was a quick and easy all in one product I thought that this would be a great option. I tried this out yesterday and I loved how it wasn't oily, but it was still quite hydrating and left my skin comfortable all day. Usually when I use my REN EverCalm moisturiser things can get really shiny after lunch time, but things were still fairly matte with a little dewiness right up to the end of the day with this one.

This Facial Massager caught my eye whilst I was browsing the skin care section and I highly recommend picking one up. It's supposed to be used after moisturising as an extra step in your routine to help your moisturiser sink into your skin more and thus work more effectively. I've only used it a few times but it was so relaxing and it definitely gave my skin a bit of a glow due to the improved circulation. As for any longer term benefits - I'll keep you posted.

So that was all that I actually bought, and then the other 4 products were my free gift with purchase. There's a few products in here that I've been wanting to buy for a while so resisting temptation has paid off this time. The Honeymania Body Butter is the biggest bargain, it's usual worth £13! It smells amazing and I've been wanting to try the Honeymania range since it came out so I was pleased to see this in there. Then there is the Elderflower Eye Gel, an unperfumed, cooling and refreshing eye gel. One for the summer maybe? Another product that is new to me... the Japanese Cherry Blossom Shower Gel, this stuff smells gorgeous. I've never actually noticed this range before but it's definitely one to check out. Last up is the Shea Lip Butter, again not a product that I have actually tried before, but it has a lovely buttery texture.

What I liked so much about this free gift bag was that it was filled with 4 full size products, all of which I hadn't tried before so it was a great way for me to try them out without having to buy them. My mantra with the Body Shop is definitely to stock up on my skincare staples that I use nearly everyday whilst there are these amazing deals on as it saves me money in the long run and sometimes I get some amazing free gifts.

Whistles clutch bags...aren't they Gorgeous?

14 March 2014

I made good use the 25% off at Whistles voucher that was in Grazia magazine this week. Grab yourself a copy if you can still find one of them in stores.

Firstly I bought this gorgeous pale turquoise/green colour Rivington Clutch (think of the Tiffany's blue colour and it looks like that in person). This is going to be perfect for the summer, I love the bright colour and the across-the-body chain means that it can be worn more casually during the day. It's a good size too, it is large enough to fit an ipad in (the large ones) so there is plenty of room for all my stuff.

Before I ordered the Rivington I had really deliberated about getting a black croc version as it is such a classic, and I knew it would be something that I would use all of the time, probably more than the brightly coloured version, but I went for the pale green one any ways...

Then the next day I bit the bullet and ordered the Medium Clutch in the Shiny Black Croc Leather (because they had sold out of the Rivington in the black croc! A few days later and now they have sold out of the Medium version...sorry guys. You can find the small black croc clutch here though... or try your luck in a store).

I'm starting quite the collection of Whistles pouches/clutches now and I can't see me stopping any time soon. They're so simple, classic and versatile, a real style staple that I will be using for years.

Another Alpha-H QVC order

13 March 2014

Ladies...keep an eye out on QVC as there are definitely some deals to be had on there. I got this combo 3 piece-deal, which includes the Balancing Cleanser, a supersize Liquid Gold and the Absolute Eye Complex for only £32.00! Considering the 200ml Liquid Gold is £37 on it's own this was an absolute bargain.

These deals come and go very quickly, I snapped this one up whilst flicking through the tv channels late one night, I saw it, quickly grabbed my laptop and it was ordered within minutes... simple.

I've checked QVC's schedule for you all and Alpha-H will next be featured on the 24th March between 11pm and 12pm. In the meantime however you can check out what they have to offer online, they stock Elemis, bareMinerals, L'Occitane and of course Liz Earle.

In case you are interested in the products that are mentioned above here's a quick break down.

  • Alpha-H Balancing Cleaner with Aloe Vera | This is an all-round, simple cream cleanser suitable for all skin types. It removes eye make-up, make-up, cleanses and balances the skin all in one simple step. Its creamy and soft and manages to cleanse and balance without being dehydrating.
  • Alpha-H Liquid Gold | This cult beauty product goes supersize! It's much better value to buy this large version from QVC and it seems to be the cheapest place to get your hands on it. This product truly can transform your skin.
  • Alpha-H Absolute Eye Complex | This one is a new product for me, to be honest I wasn't that bothered about it, it just happened to come with this deal and it was still such good value even if I didn't want the eye serum. Even after trying it, it's still a product that I'm not too fussed about, I prefer something with more of a creamy texture and this gel didn't really do anything for me.

When you take the prices of the items separately they should have been £94.50, so even after delivery I managed to save around £60! Keep an eye out on QVC ladies...

Fashion Haul | It's a monochrome one.

11 March 2014

So...I went shopping last weekend. I've been in a bit of a style rut recently..the same old jeans and jumpers as it's been pretty cold recently. However last weekend the sun came out, and new style inspiration hit. It was time to update the wardrobe ready for Spring.

I absolutely love these biker style jeans from Zara. They're so soft and stretchy and really comfortable to wear. Sure I have other black jeans, but these have the zip detailing on the pockets and they have the textured knee pads which make a plain outfit a bit more interesting.

This collared dress from Mango is going to be my new go to LBD this season. It is so versatile! It can be worn with the collar fully buttoned up or left open, it can be tied at the waist with the fabric belt attached, left loose and baggy, or you can add your own belt. I really love the style of the short sleeves as they balance out my pear-shaped proportions- check out the images on the Mango website to see them more clearly.

I stumbled across these t-shirts whilst in Primark this weekend, the 'boyfriend style' tee. I got the black and the grey version and they're perfect for an everyday casual outfit. What I loved was the slightly thicker material, as most t-shirts these days seem to be made from sheer, see-through cotton.

This t-shirt from Mango is so classic and simple. I'm loving the Paris print on the front and the linen material is something different.

I wrote a full post on these dresses here last week so I won't go on about them again. Check it out for more details about these Dorothy Perkins dresses.

As soon as I saw these shoes in Zara I knew I had to have them. I'm not the biggest fan of feet and you will rarely find me with my toes out on show even in the heat of the summer. I usually try to find enclosed toe, strappy sandals like these ones for when the weather hots up, but I've only ever had flat versions before. These heeled, close toe sandals are gorgeous and I can see them being on my feet all summer whenever the occasion for heels arises. They're actually really comfy as they have a chunky heel and the ankle strap keeps things secure and easy to walk in. (My favourite buy out of everything in this post).

The flat black sandals are actually from Primark, and they're real leather which I was shocked about, saying that they're not the softest of leathers. I picked them up as they were only £12 and they still cover most of my toes! I swear its a phobia, ha.

Last up is some new PJ's, I've not bought PJ's in ages! The gorgeous blue bottoms are from H&M and the cream t-shirt is from Primark.

What are your style staples for this season?

Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector | My 1 month follow up.

10 March 2014

I claimed that this was a wonder product in my initial review and over one month later I'm still saying the same thing. This has been my base of choice practically every day since. I've tried out a few new foundations recently but nothing has performed quite like this.

This is so light yet it still manages to provide adequate coverage. The staying power throughout the day is also incredible. I think this is because of the matte formulas specifically for oily skin. I often find that matte foundations, in general aren't the lightest formulas and are often a bit cakey, but this BB cream from Garnier has changed things, it's glowy but not dewy and it manages to keep shine at bay for most of the day.

The only issue is the shade range. Its either light or medium. Light is currently a bit too dark for me, but I wear it regardless as I think that this is what has made me look more alive...a bit of colour on my pale face. I just make sure it is blended well down my neck and hopefully it's not too noticeable. Hopefully once summer arrives the shade 'light' will match up perfect.

Garnier did also claim that this would improve the look of your skin after a month and for me my skin has improved dramatically. I'm sure that this is a combination of my improved skincare routine (post to follow...) and using this everyday instead of a heavy foundation. My skin is now more even toned, more radiant and my blemishes are now basically non-existent. This wonder product is actually makeup and skincare in one!

You can find the Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector Oil Free in the aisles of Boots. Boots currently have a 3 for 2 offer on selected haircare, bodycare, skincare, cosmetics and more, the perfect time to be stocking up on some new beauty products.

Because you can never have enough Black Boots...

08 March 2014

Jones black oggle ankle boots

Jones black oggle ankle boots

Jones black oggle ankle boots

Now I seem to have bought my fair share of new boots this winter, but I was on the lookout for some black, suede heeled boots.

These Oggle Ankle Boots from Jones Bootmaker's are perfect! They have a good sized heel, I love the gold buckle detailing and the contrasting suede and  leather. What's even better is that they're now £55.00 down from £110.00! This means that they are some good quality boots and they are bound to last me for years to come.

Jones currently have loads of boots and shoes reduced so it's worth checking them out. This weekend Jones are also offering free delivery until Sunday 9th March with the code FREE.

It's time to up my skincare game in the serum department.

07 March 2014

Manuka doctor apinourish age defying serum

Manuka doctor apinourish age defying serum

Manuka doctor apinourish trial set of 3

I thought that it was about time to up my skincare game in the serum department and after trying a sample of the Manuka Doctor ApiNourish Age Defying Serum I knew I had to buy the full size and give it a go.

After only two uses when I had the sample I noticed a dramatic difference in my skin, the redness left over from blemishes was fading and my skin just looked a bit more even-toned and radiant. My skin is blemish prone and currently a bit dehydrated so this serum is perfect for me, super hydrating and nourishing, yet manuka honey, one of the key ingredients is naturally anti-bacterial and keeps the blemish causing bacteria in check.

The man active ingredient however in this serum is Purified Bee Venom and after some research of my own it seems like a super-skincare ingredient. In terms of acne it supports the healing process and its anti-inflammatory so it can helps to reduce and prevent it. The bonus is that Purified Bee Venom has tonnes of anti-ageing benefits too, nurtures cell regeneration, helps collagen formation, helps treat fine lines and wrinkles, activates the renewal of damaged skin cells and reduces any scarring.

All of the above benefits make this serum perfect for those of us still suffering from blemishes into our adult years, and those of us who still get blemishes despite having dehydrated and even dry skin.

You can order one of the mini sets of 3 products to try for free here, all you pay is £2.50 for the postage, so you can try before you buy. FYI the Rejuvenating Face Mask is amazing...turns a bad skin day into a good skin day.

Alternatively if you spend over £20 on you get the mini 'try me' set free also.

Stocking up on new dresses for when the Spring weather finally arrives...

06 March 2014

Dorothy perkins dresses black and white tribal aztec print and daisy print

Now that it's March I'm really hopeful that the weather is going to start warming up...hence the need for some new dresses in my wardrobe. When I was in Dorothy Perkins the other day I spotted these 2 monochrome options.

The first is a black and white aztec/tribal print dress in Dorothy Perkin's signature 'fit and flare' style which I love. This style is so easy to wear, it can be dressed up or worn casually and the monochrome pattern means that it will go with everything.

Next up is a grey daisy print 'fit and flare' dress. The daisy print is cutesy but the grey and the diamond print background make sure that it's not too girly. I've been wearing this with tights this week, but I can't wait to be able to wear it with bare legs and sandals.

Dorothy Perkins have 24% off selected dresses for 24 hours only today! So head on over to to pick up some new Spring dresses for yourself. I might even  be persauded to buy a few more myself... watch this space.

Grab yourself this week's Grazia

05 March 2014

Grazia magazine and whistles clutch bag

Grab yourself a copy of this week's Grazia magazine quick! There's a 25% of voucher for Whistles in there...

This evening I have found myself browsing the Whistles website trying to pick just one item (I'm on a budget here...), but I just can't choose! Any recommendations?

I'm mixing it up with an outfit post.

03 March 2014

River Island Orange tribal print skirt

River Island Orange tribal print skirt

I thought I'd mix it up a bit this week with a fashion post. I bought this skirt from River Island a few weeks ago but I wore it for the first time to work last Friday and I got so many compliments on it.

For me orange is a Summer colour, its seems to be my go to colour every summer when I want to inject a bit of colour into my neutral outfits. I absolutely love the tribal zig-zag print, tribal patterns usually feature quite heavily in my Summer wardrobe too.

So I bought this thinking that I would save it till the Summer, but the sun was shining the other morning so I threw this on with some thick black tights and my black heeled boots and it looked gorgeous.

Just pair this skirt with a plain black or white top and you're outfit is sorted. It's a midi length skirt so it was work appropriate and comfy whilst sitting at my desk all day.

You can find it on the River Island website here. The white top was from H&M last year and I'm not sure where the necklace is from...sorry guys! Now I'm just hoping that the weather is going to start improving now that it's March.

Moisturiser and Mini's

01 March 2014

REN has to be one of my all-time favourite skincare brands. The products are so simple, yet effective and there is something to suit all skin types. I first tried the REN Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream when I was having a mega bad skin day before Christmas (I had totally overdone it on the blemish busting products- cue some very dry, red and angry skin) and I absolutely fell in love with it. This product is so hydrating, and nourishing without being oily and pore clogging. It was just what my skin needed.

I noticed a difference in my skin pretty quickly, and before long the REN Evercalm Day Cream had become my daily go-to moisturiser. Its formulated for sensitive skin, but like I said don't be afraid of it if you have oily or blemish prone skin as its soothing and calming properties really help to calm the skin and reduce any redness and inflammation.
As you get older, if you're still getting blemishes it is definitely best to step away from the uber drying and stripping formulas usually targeted at teenagers and opt for something more calming, soothing and hydrating, especially for your cleansers and a moisturisers. Keep the harsh blemish fighting ingredients the to specially formulated masks and treatments.

Earlier this week when I had to repurchase the Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream... REN on their website are currently giving away 4 free mini's with every order and we all know how much I love a good mini. So I promptly added 4 to my basket, 3 favourites and a new  product to try, along with the full size Evercalm Day Cream.

The 4 free samples that I chose were the Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask, the Invisible Pores Detox Mask, the Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream and the T-Zone Balancing Day Fluid which is the one that I haven't tried before. I find that these miniatures are perfect for taking on weekends away, particularly the masks, as they generally have 1-2 uses in them.

Head on over to REN now to make sure that you get your free samples when you order a REN prodcut.
